guiuan
Guiuan sits in Eastern Samar â a province better known for its beautiful caves and majestic rivers than for surf, which is exactly what makes it special. Most visitors come for Linao Cave on Calicoan Island, part of Guiuan's municipality. What they don't expect is the world-class surf waiting there too.
The spot, known to most as ABCD Beach, sits on Calicoan Island and produces consistent quality waves on a reef break that lights up during South swell season (Habagat). If you're heading there during North swell season, check the forecast first â it can be hit or miss. But when the south swell fires, this place delivers long, beautiful rides that most of the country simply doesn't know about yet.
Eastern Samar rewards the curious surfer. Fewer crowds, raw scenery, and waves that are genuinely world-class when conditions align.
Getting to Guiuan from Manila requires a flight â but once you land in Tacloban, you have a couple of good options for the onward journey.
Option 1 â Fly + Van
The most practical option if you want to travel light and cheap.
- Fly Manila â Tacloban
- Tricycle from Tacloban Airport to VanVan Tours or Duptours Terminal
- Van from terminal to Guiuan town proper (~â±200)
- Tricycle from Guiuan to ABCD Beach
| | Cost | |---|---| | Van to Guiuan | ~â±200 | | Tricycle (airport â terminal) | To be confirmed | | Tricycle (Guiuan â ABCD) | To be confirmed |
Option 2 â Fly + Rent a Car
The best option if you want to explore at your own pace and stop for photos along the way â Eastern Samar has some stunning scenery on the drive south.
- Book a rental car and arrange airport delivery before you fly
- Fly Manila â Tacloban
- Drive southeast and enjoy the view
